OK, to kick off this forum section... I haven't seen a single comment from TL about index issues commonly discussed in forums, so perhaps TL can comment now.
In D3 v7, indexes have had significant issues over a period of ten years. What is in D3 v9 that will be compelling for developers to code into indexes, and for site admins to make better use of them? Specific areas with issues involve - need to occasionally rebuild indexes - failures in root/key - complex queries not using indexes - FSI / VME differences Is there anyone here doing a v9 beta after having issues with indexes in v7? -------------------- Always visit Nebula Research and Development first for your Pick/MV solutions

I would like to add to this wish list for indexes unless already expressed.
1. To be able to know if indexes are broken. When broken, an app has unexpected results. 2. To be able to index against compound values. 3. To be able to index against null values. 4. To have LIST-INDEX show all the indexes as expected. That's all I can think of at this time regarding indexes. Thanks Mark Johnson |

All index issues that have been reported by D3 customers have been addressed in 9.0, including issues with corrupt indexes (those that don't verify in certain circumsstances), problems with root/key, the addition of full support of numeric indexes in the VME and FSI, and the ability to use list-index to see all index types, including whether they are case sensitive or numeric.
Additionally, the ability to reference an ADI in all index utilities (create-index, delete index, verify-index, list-index) is now supported in 9.0. A full description of the index resolutions and enhancements can be found in the release notes of each of the beta versions. If any beta testers have specific questions about their use of indexes, please send your inquiry through the support channel or post any observations in this forum. |

The single most useful improvement to D3 indexes would be the ability to select numeric values (including dates) with greater than or less than criteria:
e.g. select invoices with date ge "1-1-09" and le 1-31-09" Universe has always done this. Why can't D3? /Scott Ballinger Pareto Corporation Edmonds WA USA 206 713 6006 |
